Homemade Vanilla drink syrup by J

My DH loves Vanilla Diet Coke. Loves it! But, sometimes, the place to get a vanilla Diet Coke is not open. What to do?

Well, it just so happens I worked at this particular place when I was a teenager and learned how to make the syrup for the vanilla Diet Coke!

Yay me! Once DH realized I knew the super amazing vanilla syrup secret, he pleaded with me to make it! Ok, he didn’t actually plead, but he did ask nicely. 😉

Now, this is a must to have in our refrigerator at all times.

I thought perhaps some of you would be interested in such a secret awesome vanilla syrup recipe so, here it is:

First, you will need a clean container to put your syrup in.

I like to use this old creamer bottle. It is just big enough, seals well to allow for shaking, and is perfect for pouring into drinks.

Anything will work as long as it holds at least 2 cups of liquid and won’t leak.

To make the syrup, all you have to do is a make a simple syrup of half sugar, half water. I just make mine in my measuring cup.

1 cup of granulated sugar

1 cup of water

Stir, stir, stir

Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, this is the kind I have this week

Then, pour your mixture into your waiting container and that’s all there is!

I did make sure to add the “for drinks” part on my label because I just knew one of my DS’s would think “hmm vanilla pancake syrup!” and that would just not work. 🙂

Of course, you will want to adjust how much syrup to use per your taste but a good starting point would be about a Tablespoon per 12 ounces of your drink. It is good in coffee, soda, or whatever else you would like to try it in.

Be sure to shake the mixture before use.

Recipe: Vanilla drink syrup

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

P.S. I would love to hear some other ideas for what to use this in. 😉

New blogger freak-out

So, I got up today, a little excited about working on my blog some more and I see I now have followers! Thanks to you folks! 😉 But, that was super exciting and super scary all at the same time.
For those of you who have been blogging forever, you’re probably rolling your eyes or thinking “aww how cute”. Either way, I’m excited about this new journey.

I mean, I have so much going on in this head of mine all the time. Now I have a place to share it!

I’m trying to figure out what the heck I’m doing too. I really have no clue. It’s a good thing most of this is easy to figure out.
Except, I need categories to put my posts in.
I’m still noodling that one. I’ll get it. It would probably help if I actually read the instructions, or the tutorials. I usually do that AFTER I can’t figure it out. LOL

Anyway, here we go, I’m excited to be sharing my craziness with anyone who wants to jump in here with me!

Cleaning ADD

One thing that drives me crazy about cleaning is I tend to have what I call “cleaning ADD”, AKA- cleaning attention deficit disorder. (no, I am NOT joking about real ADD- one of our DS’s has ADHD, I get it, really)

I just can’t seem to focus on one cleaning task for long! I may start doing dishes but I don’t usually finish doing dishes all at once. Or, I’m cleaning the bedroom and somehow, I’m suddenly doing laundry. It doesn’t take much for me to be distracted; the phone rings, I suddenly notice how badly the floor needs swept, the dog needs to go out, etc., so I move to a different thing, I can’t help it! Of course, I know there are probably a million tricks out there that could help me with this but I’m not so sure I want help. LOL Maybe I like that a little bit of everything gets clean but nothing actually gets all the way clean.

I do know my poor husband finds this extremely frustrating.  Poor guy.

I have a theory on how this came to be, though. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the majority of our 18+ years of marriage and I think I have developed this pattern as a way to add variety. Or, maybe I’m just full of it and a little too ditzy for my own good.

Whatever, it’s an affliction I’m willing to live with, for now. 😉
